Study Schedule - Jesus the judge response to the judges
In Matthew 26:31 Jesus predicts not only Peter but all of His disciples will fall away, "'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.” Yet, one of the first things Jesus does after His resurrection is to receive Peter back into the fold and restore Him. His restoration is linked to his repentance as Jesus asks him three times, “Peter do you love me?” Jesus anticipates we will fall because we have a fallen nature, but he does expect us to get back up by His grace and the power of the Holy Spirit He sent. He knows we cannot make it alone, but do we? How much can we depend upon Him when he states in Matthew 32:33-34 “Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven” He wants and demands our dependency and trust in Him and only then can we agree with Paul who states, “For I am not ashamed of the Gospel…” Stan Lind will be leading us off as talk about, “Peters denial and Our denial”

Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile”.

1. Have you ever felt sure about a fact or person, then when circumstances changed your opinion of that fact or person changed? 2. In verse 26:39, Jesus let his feelings be known by saying, “Oh my father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will but as thou wilt. “ Mt. 26:39, 42; Also found in Mark 14:36 and Luke 22:42. Notice that Jesus didn’t crack under stress by denying his father. Have you ever denied the Father under stress? 3. Can you recall an incident where you could have spread the Gospel or were embarrassed by the Gospel and failed to do so? |
